One of the thoughts I've had is that somehow my MDT deployments are screwing up something in Windows causing wireless problems.

User A experiences this issue nearly constantly, thinking maybe there was a Windows update B and C got but not A as she's remote I had her check, it reported being up-to-date as of this morning.

She wasn't in the office yesterday and was working remotely, wireless functioned all day without a single hiccup.

  • User C hasn't experienced the issue in a few days.
  • User B hasn't experienced the issue in over a week.
  • I've finally spoken to users B and C, the major difference here is that B and C are almost always docked at their desks and therefore using a wired connection.
  • Not a terrible idea ensuring the cards are properly seated, I'll also see if HP can send me just some new cards and try swapping out in case we got a bad batch.
  • Our access points here are Ubiquiti UniFi AC Pros but the issue manifests in various locations, according to user A its made no difference what or where they're connecting, even connecting to her jet pack is problematic.
  • I've attempted disabling allowing Windows to put the wireless card to sleep, no change.
  • I'll try to hit them all up in one fell swoop. Thanks to everyone that has posted a response, some good thoughts. Some fresh brains and eyes would be greatly appreciated. This is such a bizarre and inconsistent issue that I'm struggling to pin down what it could be or how best to troubleshoot it. When I thought the issue was consistent on all three boxes I considered installing bland Windows from disc just to see what would happened but then I learned that user B's hasn't done it in over a week.

This feels like software or driver issues but I can't nail it down. HP support want to send in all three laptops for repair but I'm struggling to believe that a hardware issue would manifest exactly the same way on three separate machines. Unfortunately I didn't do stress tests or anything extensive before wiping them of their factory images so I can't confirm or deny that the problem was there before MDT.

I wondered if perhaps my image was garbage or some other MDT issue was corrupting a part of Windows, however, the problem hasn't presented itself on our Surface Pro 4s that were also deployed to or some of our older HP EliteBook 1040s that were built using the same process. These laptops have been completely rebuilt from scratch to dust off the bloat from the factory, they were prepped using MDT and had Winddeployed to them. None of these have accomplished anything. In addition to driver updates I've disabled all power management on the cards, I've also fiddled with the Intel wireless card settings that dictate frequency preferences and what not. "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265: Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly" "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265: Has encountered an internal error and has failed" However, if I go into the System log of Event Viewer I find a peppering of the following error messages: In Device Manager, when the problem is present, Windows still displays the card and indicates everything's a-okay. These machines are also running HP's latest available BIOS update.

I've also tried the official drivers from HP's website with no results. Once the driver installation completes the connection restores and it works, for a while, then fails again.

These laptops are running your standard issue Intel Wireless card and twice now Intel has updated the drivers for it since we got these laptops and I've installed both versions when they were released to try and address this issue. One user I talked to said it hasn't done it for an entire week and I haven't gotten a chance to talk to the third but I've heard reports that they're seeing the same issue. Of the three users with these laptops, one is experiencing this constantly, restarting will fix the issue but only for a brief period of time. All of a sudden the connection would drop and they'd going to where Windows displays wireless networks to connect to would reveal that it couldn't see anything, like the wireless was turned off (it wasn't, airplane mode was also not turned on). Oftentimes the problem would begin while they were both connected to wireless and using the connection for work. Immediately upon rollout the users began experiencing connectivity issues with wireless. We've got three HP EliteBook 745 G4 laptops, brand new, only had them about a month.
